Lion Oakes Consulting began with two hospitalist physicians who noticed a recurring problem: hospitals were facing mounting pressures from tight budgets, staff burnout, and rising patient expectations.
Too often, the solutions offered were impractical or disconnected from the realities of healthcare. Drawing from decades of experience in clinical practice and leadership, we founded LOC to bring meaningful, actionable change to hospitals.
We believe the best solutions are practical, efficient, and grounded in real-world experience.
Whether it's optimizing workflows, improving team dynamics, or enhancing patient care, our goal is to align every aspect of the organization to deliver sustainable results.
By focusing on smarter processes and stronger connections, we help hospitals not just meet their goals but exceed them - elevating their reputation, growing their market share, and creating a culture of excellence that lasts.
With over 15 years of physician leadership experience, Dr. Huff has founded two successful Hospitalist programs in Kentucky. He is the Hospitalist Medical Director at Baptist Health Hardin, where he has also served as Chief of Medicine, a Utilization Review Physician Advisor, and an active member of multiple committees. He has a passion for fostering a sustainable environment built on multidisciplinary teamwork, collegiality, and quality.
A practicing Hospitalist since 2012, Dr. Yerkes has been instrumental in the development of the Baptist Hardin Hospitalist Program. Additionally, he is a Lt. Colonel in the US Army, having served two combat deployments overseas. He currently serves as a Flight Surgeon for the Army and fills multiple other leadership roles. As a local entrepreneur, he is the founder and owner of three businesses. He incorporates the lessons learned from these broad experiences to mold his approach to leadership.
Everything we do should ultimately result in better outcomes and better experiences for patients.
Giving advice is easy. Giving good advice that actually works requires experience and insight
Healthcare is a rapidly evolving industry, with ever-increasing burdens on those involved in patient care. All policies, technology and workflow must consistently add value to the organization and the end user.
To the fullest extent possible, decision making should be accompanied by a robust understanding of the data.
We must avoid the natural tendency to create a solution in search of a problem.
Healthcare is an infinite game, as philosopher and scholar James P. Carse describes. Strategies must be aimed at long term sustainability and improvement, rather than short term "wins" that erode future success.
